About Roni Deutch
Roni Lynn Deutch is known as The Tax Lady for a reason: she has two decades
of practical experience resolving IRS tax problems and preparing taxes for taxpayers,
nationwide. Consequently, she has become a well-known media personality and one
of the few go-to tax experts in the country.
Background and Education
Before she became The Tax Lady, Roni Deutch was a ballplayer. A natural born competitor,
Roni grew up playing baseball with the boys and never stopped. In fact, she became
the first female in the history of California to play little league baseball in
an all boys’ league. By the next year, the league selected Roni as an “All Star.”
Roni rode her baseball-playing prowess to the University of California, Berkeley.
It was there, while starring on the softball team, that Roni developed an interest
in the law. After her playing career ended, she used her education at Berkeley to
catapult her to law school. In law school, she developed an awareness of the pitfalls
of the Federal Taxation System and of the devastating financial impact it can have
on the lives of those who become indebted to the IRS.
This awareness spurred her to become the president of the student tax association
and advance in her studies to obtain an LL.M. degree (Latin for Legum Magister)
or Master of Laws in taxation. Since 1991, Roni has been a licensed attorney in
the state of California with a rating of “Excellent” by Avvo, a third party organization
that rates all attorneys nationwide (i.e. please review Roni’s state bar record
on the website of the State Bar of California,
found here, or her Avvo rating,
found here).
After law school, Roni went back to her natural inclination of competing with anyone
of any stripe by diving headfirst into taxes—a field dominated by men. She formed
her law practice out of her rented condominium in 1991. While still paying off $120,000
in law school debt, Roni went “all-in” by maxing out her credit cards and investing
the funds into television advertising to promote her fledging law practice. After her first run of commercials, the telephone
rang off the hook, and a new sensation was born.
Professional
In 1996, Roni’s condo-based law practice transformed itself into
Roni Lynn Deutch, A Professional Tax Corporation. The Tax Lady’s commercials
are now viewed by millions, on a daily basis, reaching every major city in the country.
As a result, her law firm now receives over 75,000 inquiries for service each year.
Boasting 14 attorneys and a staff over 100, The Tax Lady’s law firm has helped tens
of thousands of taxpayers save millions of dollars over the years. Roni and her
tax attorneys fight the IRS and give their clients the fresh start they deserve.
For example, in 2008 alone, the Tax Lady and her firm helped American taxpayers:
- Resolve approximately $71 million in IRS back taxes
- Save approximately $12 million through the Offer in Compromise program

Building upon the success of her law firm, Roni “upped-the-ante” in 2006 by taking
on the 800 pound gorilla in the tax field—H&R Block—by creating her own tax
preparation company, Roni Deutch Tax Center.
Roni Deutch Tax Center provides tax preparation service for taxpayers nationwide.
In 2007, The Tax Lady expanded the scope of her tax preparation company and began
selling franchises across the country. She now finds herself as
CEO of one of the nation’s fastest growing tax preparation franchise company—RDTC,
Inc. In 2008, its first year of operation, RDTC sold over 312 territories
and, in 2009, it has operating franchise locations in 19 states.
Media
As you can imagine, Roni Deutch’s reputation as a tenacious tax attorney fighting
the big bully—the IRS—on behalf of American taxpayers and taking on the major players
in the tax industry has made her well known. In fact, “Roni Deutch” ranks second
in terms of Total Awareness as a company that “can help taxpayers resolve problems
with the IRS”. She is also known by name to one out of three Americans age 18 and
over. (Intercontinental Marketing Investigations, Inc., February 2007) Roni also has a commanding web presence.
She and her businesses own multiple web properties (i.e. see
RoniDeutch.com, RDTC.com, and
RDTCFranchise.com) resulting in thousands of inquiries for service.
She also owns multiple innovative blogs resulting in approximately 170,000 visits
in 2008 alone (see Roni Deutch: The Tax Lady
Blog; RDTC – Tax Help Blog;
Tax Relief Blog; Watch Me Franchise;
12 Days of Taxes). Each of these sites
are updated regularly with trustworthy and informative content, helpful for all
American taxpayers.
Roni, the go-to tax expert, is a repeated featured guest on the FOX Business Network.
There, she has been interviewed multiple times on FOX's Money for Breakfast to share her expertise on
topics ranging from the anticipated increase in audits and last minute tax tips
during tax season. Beyond FOX Business, Roni has also made multiple appearances
on Air America (The Thom Hartmann Program), and on other radio stations, and has
been featured in many articles appearing in magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals,
such as the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Sacramento Bee, Houston Business
Journal, St. Petersburg Times, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She is also
known internationally, having been interviewed for periodicals in Paris, France,
and Australia.
And now, she has written a book. The book, The Tax Lady’s Guide to Beating the IRS
and Saving Big Bucks on Your Taxes, is an approachable guide to getting the reader
in control of his or her taxes. It provides key advice in creating a tax plan, preparing
one’s taxes, and considering the tax consequences of many important life choices,
such as education, retirement, starting your own business, or investments.
